Skeeters Defeat Bees In Walk-Off Fashion

Pitching Staff Combines For 14 Strikeouts

(Sugar Land, TX– April 28, 2018) – The Sugar Land Skeeters (2-0) defeated the New Britain Bees (0-2) 5-4 in walk-off fashion at Constellation Filed on Saturday night and have now taken the first two games of the season-opening six game series.

New Britain starting pitcher Mark Hamburger tallied a no-decision in his Bees debut, surrendering four runs on six hits in three and two-thirds innings on the mound, walking two and striking out five. Sugar Land starting pitcher Logan Bawcom also did not factor in the game’s final outcome after allowing three runs on five hits in four innings of work, striking out four.

Trailing 3-0 after one inning of play, the Bees responded against Bawcom with a crooked number of their own, plating three runs in the top of the second to get even, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Conor Bierfeldt and an RBI single produced by James Skelton. Trailing 4-3 in the top of the eighth, New Britain battled back once again to tie the ballgame up on a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded by Angelys that plated Darrell Ceciliani after he started the rally with a single to right filed for his first base knock in a Bees uniform. In the bottom of the ninth, Sugar Land had runners at second and third with nobody out, but Kevin Chapman struck out consecutive batters in relief of losing pitcher Elvin Ramirez (0-1), but could not get the elusive third and final out as pinch-hitter Albert Cordero singled to left field following an intentional walk which scored Matt Chavez as Sugar Land was able to celebrate for the second consecutive night in the Lone Star State. Jonathan Galvez led the way for New Britain with two more hits as he has now reached base in five of his first seven plate appearances overall. Photo provided courtesy of Megan Murnane.
