The Bees: New Britain’s scoring last night began in the 1st inning whenever Craig Maddox brought home James Skelton on an RBI groundout to take a 1-0 lead. It was followed by a 2 RBI double by Michael Crouse in the 5th, an RBI double by Conor Bierfeldt in the 6th, and an RBI single by Jon Griffin in the 8th. Starting pitcher Nick Greenwood recorded his 500th career strikeout in the top of the 5th inning, striking out Giovanny Alfonzo looking for the third out.

The Opposition: Long Island was held off the scoreboard last night until the 7th inning. In that frame, they brought 2 runs home off the bats of Derrick Pyles and Giovanny Alfonzo, who both notched RBI singles. At the time it cut New Britain’s lead in half to 4-2. Then in the 8th, Ruben Gotay made the score 4-3 with an RBI double to bring home Audie Afenir. Former New Britain Bee Jordan Hinshaw recorded 3 hits in the game, including a double, but was left stranded on base all 3 times.

Starting Pitchers – New Britain: RHP Kyle Simon (9-10, 4.19) | Long Island: RHP John Brownell (8-3, 3.53)

Key to the Game – Steady bullpen: In last night’s game, Long Island was held scoreless until the 7th and 8th innings. It was the first time since July 18th that New Britain successfully held their opponent scoreless for that long in a game that wasn’t a shutout. That July 18th game was also against Long Island. The Ducks showed that they have the potential to be an offensive threat in the late game stages. Look for the Bees pitching staff, led by Kyle Simon and backed up by the bullpen to take advantage of an early lead that their offense gives them and maintain it throughout the entirety of the contest.
