Series: The Bees took game 1 of the series by a 7-6 final score in 11 innings. That game was game 1 of the home and home doubleheader, which will continue tonight at New Britain Stadium for game 2. The final games of the weekend series will be on Sunday afternoon starting at 1:00 P.M. to make up the game on Friday that was postponed due to inclement weather.

PROMOTIONS: Today is the Bridgeport vs. New Britain home and home doubleheader presented by DATTCO! Game 1 of the split twin bill was played in Bridgeport this afternoon, and game 2 will be tonight at New Britain Stadium! After the game: FIREWORKS! It is also Scout Campout Night at New Britain Stadium, where scout troops can camp out under the lights in the ballpark!

The Bees: New Britain was forced to play from behind after the 1st inning of game 1. Their offense started in the 2nd with an RBI groundout by Jamar Walton, and then an RBI single by Michael Crouse in the 3rd. The Bees put 3 more runs on the board in the top of the 5th inning led by Jovan Rosa’s solo home run, and they would be held off the scoreboard until the top of the 11th inning. In that frame, Craig Maddox hit a 2 RBI double to give New Britain a 7-5 lead at the time, and they would hold on for the 7-6 victory.

The Opposition: Bridgeport struck first with a run in the bottom of the 1st inning of game 1 thanks to an RBI single by Jose Cuevas. After New Britain took a 5-2 lead through 4 and a half innings, the Bluefish battled back with a run in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th. The game would remain tied at 5 until the 11th inning when New Britain broke the stalemate. After the 6th inning the Bluefish bullpen combined for 4 innings of scoreless relief, only giving up 1 hit to the Bees.

Starting Pitchers – New Britain: LHP Nick Greenwood (1-4, 5.27) | Bridgeport: RHP Ross Seaton (1-0, 6.64)

Key to the Game – Power drain: Since August 10th, New Britain’s opponents have hit 14 home runs while New Britain has hit 7. 5 of those 13 home runs were not solo home runs. In game 1 of today’s doubleheader, Angelys Nina hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 4th inning, which sparked the Bridgeport offense as they would go on to score 3 more runs within the next 2 innings. Look for the Bees to use the pitcher-friendly confines of New Britain Stadium to their advantage in game 2, keeping the ball in the yard and limiting the power potential of the Bridgeport lineup.

Broadcast: The Bees’ Official YouTube Channel (youtube.com/NewBritainBees) and Facebook Live (facebook.com/newbritainbees), starting at 6:20 P.M.

Song of the Day: The Who - Magic Bus
