The Bees: New Britain began the second half of the 2017 season with a victory over Somerset yesterday, who came in 1st place in the Liberty Division for the first half. Conor Bierfeldt and James Skelton each hit solo shots in the game, for Bierfeldt it was his team leading 13th homer. Jovan Rosa tallied 2 RBI with a single in the 5th inning. On the mound, Kyle Simon pitched 7 innings, only allowing 1 run and striking out 4 batters.

The Opposition: For the second straight time, Rick Teasley struggled against the New Britain offense. In his first start against the Bees on June 23rd at Somerset, he allowed 13 hits and 5 runs. Last night he allowed 8 hits and 4 runs. Both Somerset runs came off of the bat of Kyle Roller, who drove in one of them with a single in the 6th and another after reaching on an error in the 8th.

Starting Pitchers – New Britain: RHP Mike Lee (2-5, 4.45) | Somerset: RHP Lucas Irvine (4-2, 4.91)

Key to the Game – Back up Bierfeldt: Lucas Irvine has faced the Bees twice so far this season. Conor Bierfeldt is batting .333 against him, including 2 home runs and 3 RBI. Through his last 5 games, Bierfeldt is batting .357 with a home run last night, along with 2 RBI. With his hot bat, both as of late and against Irvine, lurking in the middle of the lineup, look for the Bees to revolve their offensive momentum around it. Look for them to use their batting order to their advantage, with the top half getting on base to generate opportunities for Bierfeldt as well as the bottom half bringing him around when he gets on base.
