The Bees: The main headline of last night’s game for New Britain was Michael Crouse. He went 2-4 on the night with 2 home runs and 5 RBI, his first multi-home run game of his Atlantic League career. The franchise record for most RBI in a game by a single Bees player is 6, done by Jon Griffin on July 28th against Southern Maryland last season. Jason Jarvis picked up his first ALPB win yesterday, becoming the pitcher of record after Eric Fornataro had to be lifted in the 3rd inning due to an apparent injury.

The Opposition: Even though they only put up 3 runs on the scoreboard, Southern Maryland’s bats were not quiet in yesterday’s contest. 5 different players recorded 2 hits each for a total of 10, 4 of them were doubles. A lot of the runners would end up being stranded, as the Blue Crabs would leave 8 runners on base. 8 of the 9 New Britain runs were scored off of starting pitcher Drew Hayes while the Blue Crabs bullpen would limit the Bees to just 1 run and 2 hits in the final 4 innings of the game.

Starters – New Britain: RHP Mike Lee (1-4, 5.66) | Southern Maryland: RHP Brian Grening (4-1, 2.71)

Key to the Game – Score first, score more: The Bees have won 5 of their last 8 games overall. In all of those 8 games, they have been the first team to score. In those 5 games that they have won during that time, they’ve averaged 5.6 runs per game, compared to an average of 2.6 runs per game by their opponent. In the 3 games that they have lost, they scored an average of 3 runs per game. Look for the Bees to keep their streak of scoring first alive, and use momentum generated from last night’s offensive performance to add on to their lead, forcing Southern Maryland to play from behind.
