New Britain took the win in game 1 with a 7-6 final score, and York was victorious in game 2 by a score of 6-4. Last night, Anthony Marzi pitched a complete game shutout to defeat the Revolution 2-0. The final game of the series is tonight at 6:30 P.M.

The Bees: The main story for New Britain yesterday was Berlin, CT native Anthony Marzi. He went the distance, limiting the York offense to just 5 hits and striking out 2 batters. The only Bees runs came in the 1st and 8th innings. Conor Bierfeldt drove in James Skelton with an RBI single in the 1st, and Craig Maddox drove in Yusuke Kajimoto with an RBI double in the 8th.
The Opposition: Victor Mateo countered Anthony Marzi’s strong start very well with a quality outing of his own, pitching 7 innings while only allowing 1 run. The offense for York was quiet, although they managed to put the ball in play quite often, limiting the strikeouts by Marzi. 25 of the 27 outs had to be recorded by Bees fielders. Alexi Casilla recorded the only extra base hit for the Revolution in the game with a double in the 9th.

Key to the Game – Clean, polished defense: One of the biggest factors that contributed to Anthony Marzi’s stellar performance last night that may not have shown up on the scorecard was the defense behind him. Marzi only struck out 2 batters and walked 1 while allowing 5 hits, facing a grand total of 33 Revolution hitters. That equates to 25 York batters putting the ball in play, and 25 fielding putouts being made. Yesterday was also the first time that the Bees defense did not commit an error since game 1 of the doubleheader against Long Island on June 7th. Look for the Bees to keep it up with the polished defense behind Jonathan Pettibone, as they have shown last night how far a clean fielding game can go when going for a win.
