Bees Lose Third Straight in First Road Game of Season

NEW BRITAIN, C.T. -- The New Britain Bees fell to the Nashua Silver Knights on Wednesday night, 10-1.  The Silver Knights started off the game by scoring seven runs in the first inning and the Bees were unable to mount a comeback later in the game.

Dylan Jones (Franklin Pierce) and Nick Shumski (Merrimack College) both had two at-bats in a first inning where Nashua scored seven runs and took control of the game.  Dominic Keegan (Vanderbilt University) started the hit parade with a base clearing triple to give the Silver Knights a 3-0 lead.  The next batter, John Mead (Franklin Pierce), brought Keegan home by hitting a two run home run extending the Nashua lead to five.  Later on in the first, Dylan Jones hit a double in his second plate appearance of the inning, bringing home both Nick Perkins (Endicott College) and Brady Day (Kansas State) to finish off an explosion of offense.

Nashua would add on three more runs in the third and fourth innings to take a commanding 10-0 lead over the Bees.  New Britain would find their only run in the seventh inning when Andrew Cain (University of New Haven) hit a double into center field which scored Noah Martinez.  Cain extended his hitting streak to four games with that double, and also collected his fifth RBI of the season.

New Britain’s starting pitcher, Macguire O’Sullivan (Assumption College), was pulled after the seven run first inning, having walked one batter and throwing no strikeouts.  Josh Vincent (Eastern CT State University) came in for three innings of work and gave up the last few runs of the game to Nashua.  Kyle Menaker (University of Albany),  Tommy Hughes (Southern CT State University),  and Tyshaun Diaz (Southern CT State University) finished off the game for New Britain on the mound.

The Silver Knights started Josh Roberge (Wheaton College) who pitched 3.2 innings and gave up only two hits with seven strikeouts and five walks.  Griffin Young (Wheaton College) picked up the win in 1.1 innings on the mound and struck out four batters.  Nashua also pitched five other players throughout the game.

The Bees will return home for a matchup with the Westfield Starfires after the game was postponed back on July 3.  In their previous matchup, the Starfires defeated the Bees 6-4 in a game full of errors.  First pitch set for 6:35 p.m. Click Here For Tickets
