Bees Outlast Barnstormers In A Sunday Matinee Slugfest

Teams Combine For 23 Runs And 24 Hits

(New Britain, CT – June 9, 2019) – The New Britain Bees (22-19) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (16-23) 12-11 at New Britain Stadium on Sunday afternoon to take the rubber game of a three-game weekend series in the Nutmeg State.

New Britain starting pitcher Jed Bradley registered a no-decision in the matchup, allowing five runs on six hits in four and two-thirds innings of work, walking three and striking out four. Lancaster starting pitcher Kelvin Vasquez also did not factor in the game’s final outcome, surrendering three runs on three hits (one home run) in three innings pitched, walking four while striking out one and tossing a pair of wild pitches.

Trailing 10-4 in the bottom half of the sixth inning, New Britain got to within 10-6 thanks to a two-out, two-run single off the bat of Taylor Motter that allowed Jason Rogers and Jonathan Galvez to cross the plate after Rogers led off the frame with a free pass and Galvez doubled to left centerfield with one man down. In the home half of the seventh, the Bees batted around and scored five runs on six hits to jump out in front 11-10, highlighted by RBI base knocks produced by Rogers, Galvez, and Motter. Lancaster scratched across a run in the top of the eighth versus winning pitcher Jim Fuller (2-1) that tied the contest up at 11 when Joey Terdoslavich drove home Darian Sandford by way of a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the eighth, Rogers was at it once again as he put the boys from the Hardware City ahead for good with a massive solo home run off the scoreboard in left centerfield versus losing pitcher Bryan Harper (0-3), as his fourth tater of the season gave the game its final score of 12-11. In the top of the ninth, Jose Rosario induced pinch-hitter Caleb Gindl to bounce into a game-ending 3-6-3 (Rogers to Alexi Amarista back to Rogers) double play, giving New Britain a wild come-from behind one-run victory and enabling Rosario to tally his team-leading fourth save in the process. Galvez and Motter led the offensive attack with three hits each. Photo provided courtesy of Kim DeGasero.
