Barnstormers Offense Awakens In Victory Over Bees

Three Hit Nights For Martinez And Galvez

(New Britain, CT – June 8, 2019) – The Lancaster Barnstormers (16-22) defeated the New Britain Bees (21-19) 9-6 at New Britain Stadium on Saturday evening to even up the three game weekend series at a victory apiece.

New Britain starting pitcher Cory Riordan (3-4) suffered the loss, surrendering seven runs (six earned runs) on ten hits in four and one-third innings pitched while also hitting a batter. Lancaster starting pitcher Jared Lakind (1-1) earned the win after allowing three runs on five hits (one home run) in six innings of work, walking three and striking out four.

Trailing 5-0 in the home half of the third inning, the Bees cracked the scoreboard for the first time on the night thanks to a solo home run to left field off the bat of Ozzie Martinez, his third big fly of the campaign. Down 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth, New Britain plated a pair by way of a two-run double produced by Logan Moore that allowed Jason Rogers and Deibinson Romero to cross the plate after both players drew free passes earlier in the frame. The boys from the Hardware City got to within 9-5 in the bottom of the eighth as Jonathan Galvez launched a two-run tater to left for his seventh roundtripper of the season, tying him with Alexi Amarista for the club lead. The Bees cut the deficit to 9-6 in the bottom of the ninth when Alejandro De Aza drove in Martinez with an RBI base knock, but that was as close as the home team would get as Cody Eppley made the big pitch he needed to, inducing Taylor Motter to fly out do Darian Sandford in left to end the ballgame with Motter representing the tying-run at the plate.
