Former Big Leaguer Scribner Comes to New Britain

(New Britain, Conn., May 15, 2018) – The New Britain Bees today announced the signing of pitcher Evan Scribner.

“It’s great to add a player of Evan’s caliber to this team,” says Bees General Manager Brad Smith. “He is an established pitcher with a proven track record in the big leagues, and even has some local roots by growing up in Connecticut and playing college ball down the road at Central Connecticut State University.”

Evan Scribner comes to New Britain for his 12th year of professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. Last season, the former big leaguer appeared in eight games for the Seattle Mariners, logging 7.1 innings pitched with six strikeouts.

The Connecticut native was originally selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 28th round of the 2007 MLB draft out of Central Connecticut State University. After two campaigns in the Diamondbacks organization, he was traded to the San Diego Padres for Tony Clark. Following three successful seasons in the minor leagues, the righthander would then make his Major League debut with the Padres in 2011. He would spend a total of seven years in the big leagues with San Diego, the Oakland Athletics, and Mariners from 2011-2017, appearing in 145 games and collecting a 5-4 record with a 4.15 ERA and 155 strikeouts in 169.0 innings of works.

In 323 career minor league games, Evan has posted a 29-21 record with a 2.85 ERA, 84 saves and 524 strikeouts in 419.1 innings pitched.
