Bees Head Into All-Star Break With Series Victory Over Barnstormers

All-Star Duo Of Lara And Scribner Get The Job Done

(Lancaster, PA– July 8, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (2-1, 35-31) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (1-2, 39-27) 6-3 at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Sunday afternoon to take the rubber game of a three-game weekend series in the Keystone State. The Bees head into the All-Star Break victorious in 20 of their last 27 games overall, including 14 of their last 21 contests on the road and have also now won six consecutive series played.

New Britain starting pitcher Rainy Lara (5-3) earned the win after allowing three runs on four hits (two home runs) in six and one-third innings pitched, walking and striking out two. The 2018 Liberty Division All-Star notched his fourth quality start of the campaign. Lancaster starting pitcher Joe Gardner (3-6) suffered the loss, giving up six runs (three earned runs) on six hits in just two innings of work while walking three batters. 2018 Liberty Division All-Star Evan Scribner fired a clean inning of relief in the bottom half of the ninth, striking out one for his team-leading 12th save of the season.

New Britain took an immediate 1-0 lead against Gardner just three batters into the ballgame when 2018 Liberty Division All-Star Deibinson Romero plated Brock Stassi with a run-scoring base knock after Stassi preceded Romero with an opposite-field double to the wall in left center. The Bees made it 4-0 in their favor in the top of the second by way of an error committed by Trayvon Robinson on a line drive hit by Vince Conde, a sacrifice fly off the bat of Darren Ford and an RBI single from 2018 Liberty Division All-Star Jason Rogers which extended his on-base streak to a team-high 20 straight games. The boys from the Hardware City added a pair of tack-on runs in the top of the third to take a commanding 6-0 advantage when 2018 Liberty Division All-Star Jonathan Galvez allowed fellow All-Star Jamar Walton to cross the plate with a run-scoring double after Walton led off the frame with a clean single. Two batters later Galvez would score on a sacrifice fly by Conde. Lancaster fought their way back to within 6-3, but no late-inning comeback was in the cards as the bullpen trio of Elvin Ramirez, Adam Loewen, and Scribner tossed two and two-thirds innings of hitless and scoreless baseball, striking out three. Stasi, Walton, Galvez, and Vinny Siena each had two hits as New Britain totaled 11 hits en route to the victory, marking the 20th time in 2018 in which the Bees have collected ten or more hits in a single contest. Catcher Cody Charneski contributed with a great defensive game behind the dish while also picking up a single to left field in the top of the sixth for his first hit as a professional baseball player.
